The art form Sanjhi originated in Mathura region, the art is hereditary and the craftsmen live near the Krishna temple of Mathura.  This craft involves cutting design on paper to create paper stencils. The motifs which are inspired from the stories of Lord Krishna are cut freehand using fine scissors or a blade.

The stencils are to make delicate rangolis, bindis, cards and other contemporary images now.
